Part- 1
(Penned in 1909)
Why
should I sustain losses and remain unmindful of my interest?
Why
should I not care for the future, why should I rue the past?
I hear the wails of the ummah and I am all
ears,
Companions! I must not remain silent like the flowers,
Potential
of eloquence encourages to narrate the episode,
Dust be into my mouth! If I ever complain to
God.
True!
We are known for the sense of obedience,
We narrate the painful story of our helplessness,
Our
lives are at standstill, our hearts replete with complaints,
If we
wail, we are helpless, we can’t observe restraint,
O God! Please hear the grievance of Thy
faithful men,
The unpleasant utterances from the lips that
sing Thy hymn.
(“Dust
be into my mouth” means I may be humiliated.)
Thy divine being has always been
present,
The flower adorned the garden, but fragrance
was at freeze,
O the most
Merciful! Justice is prayed!
How could the fragrance spread, if there was
no breeze?
Spreading Thy message was a bliss
to us,
Otherwise Muhammed’s following was enough for
us.
Before us strange
was the scenario of Thy world,
At one place trees were worshipped and at
other gods,
Man was accustomed to worshipping perceptible
god,
How
could one accept, then, an unseen God?
Thou
knoweth well, nobody worshipped Thee,
It was the might of the Muslims which worked
for Thee.
Part- 3
The Saljooques and the Turks too lived here,
The Chinese lived in China and the
Iranians in Iran ,
The Greeks too inhabited this earth,
The Jews and the Christians too were on this
land,
But, who in Thy name raised the sword?
Who corrected the wrong that prevailed?
We were the only men to fight for Thee,
We fought not only on the lands, but in the
seas too,
We ushered in Islam to the church of Europe ,
We spread
Islam in the burning deserts of Africa too,
We despised the pomp and show of the kings,
We upheld Thy message through thick and thin.
Part- 4
We did live to face the challenges of battles,
We sacrificed ourselves to keep high Thy name,
The
battles were meant not for our self-rule,
We never died for the sake of worldly fame,
If the ummah
had lust for the worldly wealth,
Why
it broke the idols and not worship them instead?
We never retreated whenever faced with
battles,
The bravest of the armies gave way to us,
Any act of defiance of Thee invited our wrath,
What to talk of the swords, the guns bowed
to us,
We
made imprint of Thy tawheed in every
heart,
We propagated Thy message under severe threat.
‘Ummah’ means Muslim nation.
‘tawheed’ means in the unicity of God.
Part- 5
Do say! Who uprooted the fort
of Khaiber?
Who
captured Constantinople from the Kaiser?
Who
destroyed the man-made idols?
Who slaughtered
the armies of the infidels?
Who cooled
the Fire-temple of Iran ?
Who
revived the chanting of Thy hymn?
Which nation opted to seek Thy favour alone?
And
preferred to put its existence at stake,
Whose
all-conquering sword dominated the world?
Whose call of takbir made Thy
world awake?
Whose
terror made the idol-gods fear- stricken?
And fall and
prostrate chanting Thy hymn of Oneness?
Part- 6
Whenever the prayer time came
during a battle,
Facing the ka’bah,
the Muslims lined up for prayer,
There stood
in the same row the king and the slave,
Nobody remained a
slave, nobody remained a cherisher,
The slave, the master,
the destitute and the affluent became one,
Blessed is Thy court where all
become one,
We moved in the world during mornings and
evenings,
Carrying
message of tawheed as the cup carries wine,
We spread Thy message in mountains and
deserts,
Thee knoweth well
that we were destined to win,
What to
talk of deserts, we did not spare the ocean,
We went to the extent where
the earth ends into ocean.
Part- 7
We
wiped out superstition from the world,
We offered mankind the bounty of
emancipation,
We
restored the sanctity of Thy kaa’bah,
We embraced
Thy Quraan like ardent patrons,
Still, we are blamed by Thee for faith lacking,
If we lack in faith, Thou too art not
encouraging,
There are other nations too, they too have
sinners,
They too have the
humble and the arrogant in them,
They too have the learned, the unmindful
and the wise,
There are hundreds
of them annoyed with Thy name,
Still, Thy blessings
are only upon such other nations,
Thy curse strikes Muslims the poorest among
nations.
Part- 8
The idols
talk in the temple that the Muslims are gone,
They are
happy that the keepers of the kaa’bah are gone,
From the
arena of the world patrons of the camel are gone,
With the Quraan kept under armpit
are gone,
Infidelity is all laugh! Art
Thou conscious of it?
Thy tawheed
is in humility! Hast Thou any regard for it?
This is
not a plaint! They only are affluent with wealth,
Who do not
even have wisdom to talk in an audience,
Tragedy is
this that the rewards are for the infidels, and
For poor
Muslims only promise of rewards for obedience,
Today we
have Thy grace and favour no more with us,
What is the
matter? Thy divine care is no more with us.
Part- 9
Why are the Muslims devoid of worldly wealth?
Why are the Muslims devoid of worldly wealth?
Thy divine power is such
which has no borders,
If Thou so
wish, bubble can form in desert,
The mirage
can convert to dashing waves of waters,
We are pauper, target
of others’ ridicule and have ill fame,
Is misery
the reward for dying in Thy sacred name?
The world which we ruled,
now loves others,
We are left with but an
imaginary world to heed,
We are no
more on the scene others rule the world,
Say not later
the world is emptied of tawheed,
We strive for
immortalizing Thy sacred name in the world,
Is it
possible that Muslims perish and Islam exists in the world?
Part- 10
Islamic rules are gone too, Thy devoted rulers too are gone,
The devoted saints who prayed
day and night too are gone,
They devoted their lives for Thee, Thou made them eternal,
Their time of existence and influence did not last long,
Thy devotees are gone
with a divine promise from Thee,
They will never come back nor be replaced by Thee.
Love for Muhammed is same, heart of the Muslim is same,
In the arena of the world, the
bustle of the Muslims too is same,
Core of love is same, attraction of the
beloved too is same,
Ummah of the prophet Ahmed is
same, Thou too art same,
Then, this
displeasure without reason is not understandable,
Thy wrathful rebuke to Thy devotees is
not understandable.
Part- 11
Did we forsake Thee or the prophet Muhammed?
Did we adopt idolatry
or forsake opposing idolatry?
Did we forsake love or the madness of love?
Did we forsake the tradition of Owais and Salman? *
We keep the fire of Thy takbeer hidden in our mind,
We keep the life of
Bilal the Negro as our guide.
Well! Our actions are no match to that of our ancestors,
In us, their sense of
obedience too may not be there,
All our actions may not be directed towards Thee,
Consistency of commitment to
faith too may not be there,
Earlier we were Thy chosen class now are
others,
Earlier we enjoyed Thy blessings now do others.
*(Owais Razi.,
Salman Razi. and Bilal Razi. were
the
companions of the prothet Sal.)
Part- 12
Thou perfected Islam on the peak
of the Faran,
At a prophetic call people entered into Islam in masses,
The ultimate of devotion was a
burning fire in the heart,
This burning fire infused a life of holiness in masses,
Why today our hearts are devoid of that burning fire?
We are the same scorched firewood, doth
thou not remember?
Muslims no more raise revolution to change their state,
They are no more provoked by the plight of the ummah,
Neither they have that courage nor that ego
nor conscience,
House of Islam is deserted as
Muslims have forsaken the sunnah,
Would that auspicious and blessed day come back to us again!
Would Thou be the core of our devotion once again!
Part- 13
Outsiders are
sitting by the spring in our garden,
Enjoying the song of cuckoo with
cup of wine in hand,
Away from this
bustle are sitting Muslims in solitude,
Waiting for Thy
divine inspiration to descend,
Bless Thy devotees with the
taste of self realization,
Order the divine
fire to rekindle their soul with motivation.
The vagrant ummah
is back on the road to Hijaz,
Self realization has
inspired the ummah to rise,
Every Muslim’s heart is
full of humility,
Thy favour is prayed! Their
faculties will harmonise,
Entire ummah is anxious to reach its ideal,
Again it is poised to pass
through the ordeal.
Part- 14
O Allah! Ease the hardship of the ummah,
Bless the Muslim ummah as Thou blessed Sulaiman,
Make love, the scarce kind, prevalent again,
Make the so called Mussalmans of India the real Mussalman,
From our sorrowful heart drips frustration,
From our wounded breast rises
lamentation.
Alas! traitors of the ummah
leaked the secrets to enemies,
What a tragedy! The
flowers do tale-bearing of garden,
Rule of Muslims ended and they became slaves,
The devotees of Islam became martyrs to enter the heaven,
It is Iqbal who is still absorbed
in thoughts,
His heart still harbours a storm of thoughts.
Part- 15
The elite took to serving
the victor,
The ummah shattered and got destroyed,
Their
tradition and culture perished,
Their identity finished, they became
deprived,
In spite
of all this Iqbal remained defiant,
He continued to encourage,
to rise and fight.
There is no
pleasure in living nor taste in dying,
If there is
any taste left, it is in lamentation;
My thoughts
are agitated in my heart,
My emotions
are seeking manifestation,
In the ummah there is none capable of
visualization,
Nobody
sympathises with me, nobody has compassion.
Part- 16
Would that my words influence the Muslim mind!
Be alarming enough to awaken
the sleeping mind!
So
that they revive with new commitment of faith!
So
that they again make their love divine!
Though
this presentation is not Arab, but the spirit is Quraanic!
Though
the song is Hindi, but the message is Islamic!
